GREGORY FOR PRESIDENT

Dick Gregory never attended Harvard or Yale or any of those high priced overly promoted schools with the expectation advertised about how great their graduates will be just at the mention of the school from which they graduated. No, he attended a school called Southern Illinois University where he admits he went only to run track, but he left there smarter than most of the graduates from those high-priced, often overrated schools.

Once he saw a problem, he figured out a way to solve it—not blame others for not solving it. He ran for U.S. President and never backed away from any challenge. He was so impressive that a young white woman from a small town in Virginia who later became Harvard’s President said she supported him for President and got a few white people in her circle to vote for him.

He was a different kind of Presidential candidate. While campaigning, he told people I will be governing as a statesman rather than by political muscle.” Well, if he had won, we now know he would not have handled things as a politician. The first thing we know is his language was a little saltier than today’s smooth-talking politicians! With few exceptions, politicians help those who bring the most money to them first. Statesmen help those to whose lives they bring value!

In his brilliant manner, he haunted Hoover and other racists by staging a swearing-in as President and declaring, “Whenever the current occupant of the White House fails to respond to the just demands of human needs, the independent arm will bring their concerns to the Black House.” Dick Gregory from then on, had a loyal following to the day he left this world and he still does! Our people treated him like he was our President!
